September 6, 2008 – The Jazz Heritage Center's Lush Life gallery, San Francisco's only gallery dedicated to art inspired by jazz music, today announced its second exhibition, "Cool City…Hot Jazz," a special exhibit featuring the works of legendary jazz artist EJ Gold as well as works by Grace Kelly Rivera, Douglass-Truth, Zoe Alowan & Aviko. The exhibit has been co-curated by Peter Fitzsimmons, Executive Director, Jazz Heritage Center, and Beverly Korenwaser of Heidelberg Editions International (HEI). The exhibit will be open from September 5 – October 12th at the Lush Life Gallery (1320 Fillmore Street)
EJ Gold will lead the show with dramatic 11 ft canvases, including the "Fillmore Street Scene" which features San Francisco jazz cubs of today and the past. This bridging of the past to the present is the theme of the new Jazz Heritage Center, located within the new Fillmore Heritage Center complex that includes Yoshi's new San Francisco jazz club and restaurant, 1300 Restaurant and the Heritage on Fillmore condominiums. Gold's art was featured during the opening of the Fillmore Heritage Complex and his "Fillmore Street Scene" serves as the commemorative poster for the exhibit.
"The Jazz Heritage Center is thrilled to feature the work of EJ Gold and other fantastic HEI artists," said Fitzsimmons. "This HEI group show of jazz-themed art will continue to establish the Lush Life Gallery as the artistic cornerstone of the new jazz era in San Francisco's Fillmore District."
The legendary E.J. Gold, is "considered the progenitor of Jazz Art," said Korenwaser. "He has exhibited in dozens of venues and with hundreds of jazz personalities, and was named Official Artist to the International Association for Jazz Education."
