SAN FRANCISCO (February 4th , 2009)-- The Jazz Heritage Center, San Francisco's only permanent cultural and educational complex dedicated to jazz, announces a tribute to Black History Month, with it's Lush Life Gallery exhibit: "Through the Eyes of African Americans".

OPENING RECEPTION:

To celebrate the opening of this exhibit, the Jazz Heritage Center is hosting a public reception on Thursday, February 19th, from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. at the Lush Life Gallery, (1320 Fillmore Street & contact # 415 255 7745). Photographers David Johnson, Gerald Ratto and Mars Breslow, will be joined in attendance at this reception by artist Rhonel Roberts and Leroy Parker.

February 6th , 2009 and on view through March 7, 2009, the Jazz Heritage Center's Lush Life Gallery celebrates Black History Month with a supplemented exhibit featuring additional photography by David Johnson and artwork by Rhonel Roberts and Leroy Parker.

David captures in his Fillmore Street Scenes, the bustling jazz era of the 1940s and 1950s, with a unique blend of vintage Black and White photographs, complimenting the work of fellow photographers, Gerald Ratto (Children of the Fillmore) and Mars Breslow (Jazz Legends of the Fillmore).

Rhonel and Leroy create colorful vibrant jazz themed images that also embrace the legacy of Jazz in the Fillmore and beyond, while illuminating recent chapters in jazz history and the African-American experience on the West Coast.
