Lush Life Gallery Overview

The Lush Life Gallery is the artistic heart of the Jazz Heritage Center. The non-profit gallery specializes in jazz-themed art, including paintings, photographs, posters, sculptures and mixed-media presentations created by nationally-known artists.

The mission of the gallery is to support and sustain the educational mission of the JHC through the sale of top-quality art that illuminates the history and heritage of the jazz era past and present. The Lush Life Gallery is one of the only non-profit galleries of its kind in the country. In addition, the gallery will host rotating exhibits that focus on different aspects of jazz as well as the history of the Fillmore District.

The gallery will afford artists and photographers who depict the significance of art to the Jazz movement the opportunity to exhibit their works and participate in group and individual one-man shows. The gallery also features rare images of jazz greats that are exclusive to the JHC.

Connected to the Lush Life Gallery is the Take Five Shop, a retail space which will offer visitors to the JHC an opportunity to purchase a memento of their visit to the JHC. The shop specializes in unique local gifts, including JHC-branded t-shirts, books on San Francisco’s jazz history, CDs of local jazz greats and other items that reflect the sights and sounds associated with San Francisco’s Fillmore jazz scene.

Like the Lush Life Gallery, the Take Five Gift shop is also a social enterprise. All proceeds from the sale of goods will be re-invested in the educational mission of the Jazz Heritage Center.
