As part of our tribute to Charles Sullivan,
the JazzHeritageCenter
will host a lecture and reception with Harry Richard Hall, Sullivan's nephew.
Impresario Charles Sullivan, an early black migrant to California
from Alabama
in 1928, was the leading promoter of black music on the west coast, booking
such legendary performers as James Brown, Bobby Bland, Jimi Hendrix and Ike and
Tina Turner.
Come hear his story as his nephew, former KGO News Talk 810
producer and KCSM Jazz 91 announcer, Harry Richard Hall, talks about his
forthcoming book tentatively titled, “Blues for Charles Sullivan: the father of
the Fillmore Auditorium".
