06-14-2009 to 06-14-2009
Location:
1320/30 Fillmore Street
San Francisco, CA CA
Members of the
University of California Jazz Quintet that participated in the "Jazz
Ambassador" tours during 1968 will perform for free in the Jazz Heritage
Center's Koret Heritage Lobby on Sunday, June 14, from 3PM to 5PM.
The concert
is part of the "Jazz Ambassadors" exhibit that recalls the days when
the US Dept. of State sent its most famous (and less famous) jazz musicians
around the world. A photo exhibit of the "Jazz
Ambassadors" is currently on display at the Jazz Heritage Center.
The head of '68
Cal Jazz Quintet, Lee Schipper, will be on hand, along with bassist Kelly
Bryan, who also played on the tours, including concerts in Morocco, Libya, Rwanda,
Zambia, Ethiopia, and Portugal. They will be joined by Jim Zimmerman on Drums
and notable Bay Area jazz musician, Glenn Deardorff.
Admission is free
and there will be a reception after the concert.
